The Master Build Guarantee gives you up to 10 years of cover, protecting you from many of the risks that can come with building a new home:

  • Loss of Deposit – If your builder cannot start your project (for example, due to insolvency), your deposit is protected for up to 10% of the contract value (to a maximum of $50,000).
  • Non-Completion – If your builder is unable to finish your home after work has begun, you’re covered for up to 20% of the contract value (to a maximum of $500,000) to help get your build completed.
  • Workmanship and Materials – Any defects in workmanship or materials are covered for the first year after practical completion.
  • Major Structural Defects – Structural issues (including load-bearing failures, weather-tightness problems, rot or fungal decay) are protected for up to 10 years.
  • Temporary Accommodation – If your home becomes unliveable due to a valid claim, you’re covered for temporary accommodation costs (up to $10,000).
  • Maximum Cover – All claims combined are protected up to the value of your building contract, or $1,000,000 (whichever is less).
